Main Street. ahssses s-ms^s^ ss®eseesesasssassssea oeseseesssss I was an unwilling participant I coldly calculating fer that it is a few days since in an argument | lacking in many or all of the ele- constancy of the love of man and woman. Ordinarily 1 am a staunch sexman and adhere to the princi ples enunciated in the tacitly adopted platform of mengossipers. But on this occasion candor con strains me to take up the cudgel for women. Honestly, I believe that the love of a woman as compared with that ofa man is as far superior as a pure water diamond to a rhine stone. Of course, I’m talking about a WOMAN (one of the sweetest words in its full signifi cance in the English language) and not of a child, or a moral monster, A woman is truest to a man when he is in adversity. A man is least sympathetic to wards a woman when favor frowns upon her. I know women (and good wo men, too) who have unknowingly linked themselves' with hounds that wear men’s clothes and speak English and these poor deluded women glory in their constancy, shutting their eyes to the abomi nable degradation of the creature that claims their devotion. A good woman is love incar nate. A good woman couldn’t exist without love and a hurffim being upon whom to lavish it. How about man? With ail his boasted superiority —intellectually, and otherwise how about man? The most de crepit old dotard that walks the streets of Salisbury will nimble the rheumatic joint and force a would-be winning smile at the sight of a fresh^oung maid, while the perplexities and the adversities and the wrynesses of life are all poured into the ears of the woman that waits at home. I hate awfully to score my own sex. For I am a man’s-sight man. I dont believe in women wearing bloomers, makingspeech- sion. For ne can and uuea wmu to a degree of tenderness that i;- sometimes straggely incongruous when considered in connection with the brusque,work-a day man ner forced upon him by contac' with so many types of men. But man can never hope that the divine spark will so touch bin as to give him a distant approacl even to the heights and depths oi woman’s love. And that is really the differenc between their loves. Woman truly loves. Man thinks he does. President Roosevelt yesterda pushed the button that opened th convention of the society of Wood men of the World, in Spokant Wash. At Sweetwater, Texas, yestei day, a block of business houses, seventeen in number, were destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at not less than $150,- 000, partially covered by insur ance. But! believe that in the matter of love woman stands to day—as she has always stood and will ever stand—the crowning mon ument to and the supreme emblem of love—the emblem decreed by the Omnipotent one himself. What is man’s love? An inspired enthusiasm that lives but does not live ia- and for itself’s sake. A cold,a reasoning, a conscience less—in short a man love. Not that the affection of man is inta Claus. He will vindow at A AmAT^Ti Tom 2 to' 4 o’clock lais first appearance I at 20’clocl. tetters for Santa FINK. Phone 147.
